         The Snapping turtles

                                     The family Chelydridae is represented by two genera and five species.  Two species occur in Texas:

   

                                                                              Eastern snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina)

 

 

                                                                              Alligator snapping turtle (Macrochelys temminckii)
